Warring for Streets All Night Work for Possession

About 150 laborers worked through the night on three squares south of Washington Street to lay streetcar tracks. The Dudley company and the Citizens' company clashed over ground rights, with each faction racing to complete tracks from Georgia to Meridian and toward Market Street, while authorities warned against occupying ground claimed by the Union railway. The dispute drew city leaders, editors, and civic groups into a tense, partisan fight over street access and charter rights, amid protests from both sides.
