Monday shattered official weather records in Indianapolis with readings peaking at 110 in shade areas and 105 at 1 p.m. at the Majestic building. Thermometers on Washington and Pennsylvania streets showed extreme heat as residents shed coats and asphalt sizzled under the sun.

John Swearinger a Wes Stouts saloon porter was overcome by heat in Military Park and sent to City hospital unconscious.
At 2 p.m. the governor’s office registered 84 degrees while the state house corridor offered the coolest spot in town as the heat lingered outside.
Chicago July 22 Corn advanced about 4 1/4 cents to 59 cents with July at 59 1/2, wheat up around 3 to 8 cents with July near 71/4, oats rising 3 1/4 to 3 3/8 cents with July about 38. Poor crop conditions blamed for the surge as trading remained heavy and vast quantities of cereals moved on the board.
