Theodore Roosevelt survives a hippo attack near Lake Naivasha while pursuing a calf for the Smithsonian. He killed two hippos, others fled, and the party towed the carcasses to camp where Smithsonian officials praised the trophies.
The Indianapolis Commercial Club board resolutions endorse the International Stewards' Association plan to establish a national training school in Indianapolis with Winona Technical Institute. They pledge city support and invite visiting delegates for a reception and luncheon on August 18 at 2 p.m. at the Commercial Club.
Indiana county auditors to meet in Indianapolis around August 2 and 26 to discuss a uniform public accounts system and to clear up school fund handling legal issues. County Auditor Albert Sahm of Marion County invites Gov. Marshall and the public accounting bureau. The attorney general will update school fund laws. attendance is expected from all county auditors.

Fay Pearl Lanham filed for divorce from Charles Lanham in superior court claiming he concealed three wives at the time of their 1908 marriage, was a gambler, traveled widely, gave her no clothing or hotel privileges, had arrests in several cities, allegedly drew fraudulent checks, and is now a fugitive. She asks to restore her maiden name.
Boone county residents will gather at Brookside Park Sunday for an annual outing. Capt D H Olive, president of the organizing group, announces a program headlined by Lemuel A Ralston of Lebanon speaking on Boone County of Today. F C Martin and James Berryhill will also address, with a segment titled Boone vs Marion featuring Adney and Hoden as opposing counsel. Music, recitations, and basket displays are planned.

Annapolis July 21 Mrs James N Sutton mother of Lieut James N Sutton of the marine corps testifies she believes her son was beaten and shot by companions to cover up a death by others as the second inquiry into his demise continues. She cites Bevan testimony and calls for a finding that the death was not a suicide.
