In Royal Illinois a southbound St Louis flyer struck an open switch and collided with a northbound train. Engineer Barker and a fireman were killed along with Express Messenger Hollenbeck and a brakeman. The crash injured several and left about 40 passengers in peril.
Wireless dispatch from Newport says the steamer Georgia commanded by Capt. Johnson, en route from Portland, Missouri to New York, struck an unknown schooner in Vineyard Sound fog. The Georgia is badly damaged and headed for New York while the schooner’s fate remains unclear.
In New York Bay off West 34th Street Bayonne a 40 foot yacht Shamrock flagship of the New Jersey Yacht club burned. Eleven men aboard five swam ashore, one launch picked up others missing include Percy Lemke commodore of the New Jersey Yacht club and owner of the Shamrock.
Beverly Massachusetts July 16. The Beverly Board of Aldermen will adopt resolutions censuring Congress for delaying adjourning and depriving President Taft of his summer vacation. An alderman says municipal action may have a salutary effect and that Beverly cares about “Bill” Taft more than the tariff bill.
Three men dynamited the Huntley Illinois post office safe and escaped in an automobile with about $1,000. Detectives from Chicago, alerted by the Central Station, are pursuing them as they head toward Chicago.

Pittsburg July 16 About 10 000 workmen will be affected by the outcome of a joint conference at Pittsburg between officers of the Amalgamated Association of Iron Steel and Tin Workers and the Republic Iron and Steel company The plants have been idle since July 14 when the old scale expired The company hopes to have all plants operating and a new scale is believed to be arranged

An eight-year-old girl, daughter of Dr. W. J. Means of Columbus, was killed when the auto veered and overturned north of Bucyrus Ohio. Dr Means and his wife were injured and the governess Miss Lovell sustained a broken arm.

Maynard Cox aged 17 and Edward Doremus aged 17 pleaded guilty to grand larceny in a southern city court on four indictments each. They posed as paperbingers to gain entry, then ransacked houses as rental agents claimed they were sent to measure rooms. William Kurrach, 17, also pleaded guilty to grand larceny for stealing 55 dollars and a suit of clothes.
