The Indianapolis News reports that John W. Holtzman failed to gather signatures for a third bid at mayor. Despite organized push, only about 1 150 names surfaced from some 30 petitions, with signatures added by former Holtzman allies and News Office staff.
From Pittsburg to Scranton reports detail violent strike actions at Pressel Steel Car Works and mass unrest as officers battle thousands of strikers and civilian mobs. Bricks stones and knives inflict numerous injuries. Chief Farrell is stabbed and a policeman wounded. Fire kills two in Scranton tenement. Immigrant labor shortage noted.
Miss Anita Stewart daughter of Mrs James Henry Smith is announced engaged to Prince Miguel of Braganza eldest son of Duke Michael the pretender to the Portuguese throne. Countess Szechenyi credited as matchmaker in the arrangement.
Dr and Mrs John Stites of Portland Mills Indiana escaped serious injury when their runabout was struck by a cut of freight cars at the Lake Erie and Western crossing on Twenty second street. The car was demolished and pushed along the track half a square. Mrs Stites suffered minor head and hip injuries while Dr Stites escaped with bruises. Police and Dr Horace Allen attended.
The third day of hearings on Harry K Thaw's mental condition opens with plans to produce letters showing Daniel O Reilly acted as counsel for Thaw and Evelyn Nesbit Thaw. Witnesses testify to Thaws rationality and court delays aim to allow alienists more time.
A hungry boy led Salvation Army workers to a severely ill mother in a Baldwin block home. Doctors say the woman has appendicitis and may not survive without hospital care. The duo will join the Fresh Air Farm near New Augusta for a week of relief, with ongoing fundraising and community support planned.

Mrs. L. Cora Miller, wife of Dr. W. R. Miller, testifies after being arrested for killing Vice-President Sayler of the First National Bank in Crescent City. She says she learned of her husband's affair for two years and kept silent to protect her son, while Sayler pursued the affair and the couple traveled together. The confession follows family turmoil in Blairsville, Pa.
Adolph Boss, 53, missing from his son's home at 918 Virginia Avenue, Cincinnati, was found Tuesday night at a picture show by Sergis Weaver and Baumfuhrer. He stated there was no need for alarm, as he had been with friends.
Thomas Scott was found guilty in criminal court Wednesday of assault and battery with intent to commit larceny on James B. Bennett. Scott’s attorneys filed a motion for an arrest of judgment alleging the affidavit was faulty.

At an engine house on Sixteenth Street and Ashland Avenue a Republican meeting endorsed William H. Peirce for city clerk. Peirce said the gathering was not in his interest and appreciated the support from those present.
