Alexander Chomel Jr., editor of a Catholic journal based at Georgia Street and Capitol Avenue, fell from a street car between Kissel's Garden and Washington Street Tuesday morning after a Monday night mishap. He could not identify himself when found between 1 and 2 o'clock. Dr. Crese attended to his knee injury.
Ten year old Johnny Pollock picked up a giant cracker discarded on the street near Senate and Indiana avenues Monday evening. He touched it despite warnings, it exploded and lacerated his left hand, threatening possible amputation of the thumbs. His father works as a traveling salesman.
The funeral for Peter Willems occurred Tuesday morning from his home at 22 Randolph Street. A pioneer among Indianapolis’ Black residents, he was the first colored man to attend a Lincoln invitation reception. He leaves a widow and two daughters.
Tammany held an independence day celebration in the New York Wigwam on Monday. A letter of regret from ex President Cleveland was hissed during its reading. The mother of President McKinley fell on the porch of the Canton home and was badly injured, refusing medicine. The presidential party left Canton Monday night for Washington.
Dr. Clark and contractor McCarthy face criticism as garbage pickup fails citywide. Fifteen wagons are reported on duty but many areas see no collection or only partial service. Residents and businesses blamed for improper receptacles and placement. Clark insists the contract be fulfilled and more wagons secured immediately.
