Dr Lawson Abbott former dean of Roberts Park church and leader in the eclectic medical school died suddenly at his home 273 Christian Ave Indianapolis at age 71. He came from Lafayette in 1850 and gained fame treating cholera. Survived by widow and five children including Dr Chas L and others in Des Moines Kansas and local city. He was active in church Masonic circles and Tippecanoe club.
In Washington on July 5, Secretary Blaine, famed for distrust of a Garfield assassination, withdraws from accompanying President Harrison to Woodstock after learning the journey falls on Garfield’s murder anniversary. He heads to Bar Harbor while the president proceeds to Connecticut, stepping on the silver star at the Pennsylvania station site.
A late night collision on the Chicago, St. Paul and Kansas City line near Twin Springs injures several and kills brakeman Corrigan. An excursion train carrying about 200 picnickers collided with a freight. thousands stranded as communication is cut off and fears of higher casualties grow.

Pat Kernan’s saloon at 401 E Washington St is broken into. thieves steal two revolvers, cigars, tobacco and more. Squire Johnston’s constable finds Beck arrested for provoking bartender Wm Sextroh but Beck escapes during witnesses search.
