Lynchburg Va July 3 Special The Norfolk and Western wreck near Thaxton switch caused a devastating flood washout and boiler explosion. As the train plunged into ten foot flood waters, flames engulfed coaches and express cars. Officials delayed reporting and later claims of casualties varied with 87 dead and 64 wounded, including Bishop A. W. Wilson and Mrs. Judge Thompson. Many bodies recovered later were charred beyond recognition.
