The Dreyfus reception near Rennes features 200 armed troops, a dramatic cavalry dash, and a whaleboat transfer. Capt. Dreyfus’s haggard arrival at Rennes prison followed a tumultuous landing and convoy from a cruiser.
Rennes reports Capt. Dreyfus was granted a private meeting with his wife Saturday afternoon. The affectionate reunion occurred after more than four years of separation. He wore blue clothes and has a reddish beard, with partly gray hair.
Report from Rennes states the Dreyfus court martial will begin July 21. It notes Mme Dreyfus plans to prepare all meals herself to guard against poisoning while the prisoner’s cell is described as a comfortable iron-bound room with a skylight and yard access guarded walks.
Benjamin Bowers, 32, a Cincinnati division Big Four freight conductor, died after a 40 foot fall under a bridge near Lawrenceburg. Nellie Owens and her mother escaped serious injury after Nellie, riding a bicycle, collided with a fast moving street car at BE and Oriental streets. The front wheel struck her, tossing her against the car causing facial and head bruises and cuts on her arms and legs. The motor car with a trolley party on board sped away before being stopped.
