Despondent Perry Bryan killed himself after writing a note praising the day and referencing his landlady. Wm Schmidt died from a stabbing wound after purchasing poison, but liquor proved his undoing as he failed to ingest it. The pair’s deaths followed a bloody sequence linked to a young woman’s death.
William Gehmidt a 44 year old florist, ended his life Sunday night by slashing his throat with a pocket knife at his half brother August Schmidt's home. He had purchased morphine pills but it is not believed he ingested them. Coroner Brayton reported the death and preparations were made at Herman's undertaking.

Perry Bryan a 19 year old baker killed himself by poisoning at Moran's hotel on Vlinois street after family troubles and grief over a deceased sweetheart. He checked in about 1 0 o'clock Monday morning, survived a prior poisoning attempt, left a note to notify Bryce's bakery, and died after a second deliberate ingestion.
State prison trustee Nebeker voices cautious view on Geologist Blatchkey plan to use convicts for paving brick. He says it requires huge funding and a new prison, notes external water works cost and guard needs, doubts vegetable cultivation schemes, and cites anti-convict labor law as a barrier while hoping for repeal by next legislature.
