Bear in mill mishap ends with victory for Lindley
Gideon W. Lindley, a Monroe County Pennsylvanian saw mill operator, battled an inquisitive bear during a full moon night. The bear clambered around the saw and pit, prompting Lindley to use a steel bar as the animal dangled over the mechanism until a final strike tipped the bear over and away. The 864 pound bear was subdued, and Lindley’s quick action saved his mill.
