George McCulloch planned to introduce a bill establishing a state normal school at Muncie in the senate on Wednesday. It was to be introduced in the house but opposition shifted the move to the senate first. Vigo county representatives oppose the measure.
Measures include Layman proposals licensing firms to issue against burglars and a Purcell bill to form opera house and theater companies. Thompson pushes flags as official Indiana banner and a divorce law amendment to require prosecutor defense in defaulted cases with a $15 fee from costs. The Sun office was nearly ruined by a fire at 6 a.m. believed due to increased gas pressure from a burning linotype jet. The rear mechanical areas endured the blaze, while the editorial suite suffered smoke and water damage. Insurance will offset some losses. a new plant will be provided, and no issue will be missed. Journal staff offered presses and linotypes to aid.
In Muncie Indiana on January 29 the Ball Brothers fruit jar plant will begin full operation on Monday after ten months idle, hiring 200 men and aiding about a thousand people. The Whiteley malleable castings firm will also start fully, employing 100 men.
Hon W DeWitt Wallace a distinguished author jurist and soldier died Monday night in Lafayette Ind Born November 18 1838 in Lafayette he served in the Civil War with the Fortieth Indiana Infantry rising from private to captain and was recently not resigned the judgeship of the superior court He authored works including Love's Ladder Idle Hours.

Matron Reisner recounted a dramatic incident with prisoner Roxy Jones, 22, colored, who threatened suicide on Monday night. Reisner offered a hanging by rope but the inmate refused, later surviving the night and taunting the matron the next day.

Springfield Ohio January 29 Police Judge Miller caused a stir by ordering the release of prisoners from the city jail. The bailiff counted two inmates and the judge insisted there should be three. It emerged one inmate had escaped Saturday night. The judge said the releases were made because one prisoner had been permitted to get drunk and none of them remained in custody.
