The wife of Judge J. L. McMaster died very suddenly at her home 1738 Park Avenue after a brief illness during the night. Neighbors and relatives were summoned as the heart condition caused her collapse.
George Clemens, 48, killed himself with carbolic acid Wednesday morning in a rooming house at 17 S Senate Ave. He paid weekly but kept to himself, last seen two days earlier in good health. A $113 bundle was found in his coat, and authorities link him to a searched man from Hoopston, Illinois.
Governor Marshall proclaims February 12, 1909 a special holiday commemorating the 100th birthday of Abraham Lincoln. He urges all citizens regardless of party to rededicate themselves to equality before the law and the principles of constitutional liberty.

Merchant Policeman Hlighland reported Rose made the call to Jim Jose who was on his way to the Union station. He left for Chicago Wednesday.
Mary E. Richey as administrator of Charles A. Richey an estate holder sues the Indianapolis Union Railway Co for 10000 dollars after Charles A. Richey was killed by a train. The suit is filed by the administrator with claim against the railway company for damages.
A lake freight yard crib off Seventy third Street in Chicago burned, trapping 25 to 35 men. Many leaped into icy water and were burned or drowned. survivors spoke of additional victims in the tunnel beneath the crib amid exploding dynamite. Rescue efforts faced extreme cold and danger as crews battled flames and ice.
At the United Mine Workers of America convention President Thomas L. Lewis opened with district reports and then praised ex secretary treasurer Wilson now a Pennsylvania congressman. He urged interstate joint action, announced conferences in Indianapolis and Noledo, and defended wage contracts while disputing wage reductions as a solution to depressions. He pressed reorganization of anthracite miners, urged bureau of mines legislation, and called for unity against rumors of union destruction.
Benjamin F. Shively of South Bend was formally elected United States senator from Indiana after a joint session of the General Assembly. The vote totals were Hemenway 67, Shively 83, and Shively was introduced to a hearty reception.
Judge Bartholomew heard the divorce suit of Helen D Gates against Edward E Gates Tuesday afternoon. She charges cruelty and asks alimony and support for their three children. The couple are noted in Indianapolis and she wept while recounting his conduct.
Local farmers along the road from Cap Hol oppose construction of a new Gafitol Avenue bridge. The fragmented report notes wealthy farmers in the area expressing dissent to the project.

Mrs. Minute Zendell 222 Summit Street testifies in police court that a three month feud with Mrs. Gertrude Mattick 283 Summit Street included profanity accusations. Zendell says she would have whipped Mattick if she had come out, while Mattick’s porch attack with snowballs sparked the dispute.
Charlies Higgins aged 17 and Sheridan Denson aged 16 tried to hold up Denson's stepfather on Davidson and New York streets the Saturday before Christmas. The stepfather fought back and the youths fled. They face charges of conspiring to commit a felony after investigators learned the tale from other youths and the stepfather corroborated it.
John L Sullivan says a bout between James Jeffries and Johnson is inevitable and he and manager Frank Hall plan to offer a prize for a purely athletic battle. The statement frames Sullivan as a key backer in pushing a match between the two heavyweights.
A city-wide drive by revenue officers follows a man who pulls revenue stamps from beer kegs left by drivers. Thompson, a driver for Indianapolis Brewing, reports three stamps removed from his wagons and police are warning of arrest if kegs reach saloons without stamps.
Judge Frank Ross of probate court appointed R. H. Sullivan receiver for the Composite Brick company under bond of $10,000. Oliver O. Birkley filed for a receiver citing bonded debt of $15,000 and $5,000 on machinery notes, with only $18 in the treasury. The president resigned and a director retired.
