A collision between two passenger trains on the Wabash line near Aladdin Illinois resulted in a fatal fire that burned four Italian immigrants and a woman to death. Killed were Engineer Bouchard Engineer Wil 800 Fireman Warberry. Injured include D. Conville fireman D. Dunham and EP. Clough. The eastbound train jumped a switch and struck the side track train.

An attempt to beat the Frisco books out of 4100 failed. The wires were tapped east of ALOT.
A Chicago limited express car derailed a truck on the B and O line at Fairmount injuring and killing personnel. The wreck occurred as the train traveled 40 miles per hour. Express messenger and baggage master murdered killed in the incident. Engineer Albert Seham of Wheeling fatally hurt. Five passengers injured to varying degrees.
The Board of Public Works refused to open Broadway from St. Clair to High Street amid strong remonstrances. Judge Norton noted only 15 property owners favored opening, while two remonstrances claimed 5,000 feet of property and 55 percent to Christian Avenue. The board ordered no opening and debated a grass central plat on Christian Avenue for next spring.
New York January reports that the Lawyers' Surety Company, led by president F. F. Nugent, will start operations around January 15 with 500000 dollars in capital. It will have branch offices in Boston Chicago Philadelphia Providence Pittsburg St Louis Indianapolis Detroit Milwaukee and Minneapolis. The firm will handle only judicial business and issue four bonds, avoiding fidelity or accident insurance.

A street car company scrapped sharp limits on riding for drivers motormen and conductors after meetings with a Brotherhood committee led by J Hendricks W Dermott and T Dugan. The agreement allows free rides on company badges to and from work and one daily ride, with deposits and badge controls. If the men refused duty or abused the privilege, badges would be returned. The company and union pledged to prevent abuse and report violators. Frenzel accepted the proposition, averting a citywide strike.
In Stevens County near Arkalon Kansas a county seat feud escalates with threats against Judge Theodorius Botkin. An ambush wounded a deputy sheriff, another deputy was killed, and Sheriff Dunn’s posse faced gunfire as militia ordered to Seward County by Gov. Humphrey arrived to restore order.
