Four desperates robbed Webb Miller the town marshal at midnight in Brrua. They tried to force him to loot the town. Miller ordered surrender and fired. his son Edward rushed to aid and was mortally wounded after a breast shot.
A Wednesday evening blaze in Toledo at F N Quayle Co elevator quickly spread in high winds, destroying the Chamber of Commerce block including King Co Wonderland theater Harvard building and West Truax Drug. Western Union and Postal telegraphs suffer. Total loss around 650000 with 450000 insured. Telephone exchange fire disrupts city service overnight.
In Wansaw New York on January 4 a Buffalo Rochester Pittsburgh freight wreck at Rock Glen killed Dennis Cushman and W. T. Morrill and badly crushed George W. Keifer who is expected to survive. The two men in sleep in the first section perished as the runaway caboose and damaged cars exploded into flames before crews extinguished the blaze.
The infant child of John Kuhler on Hamilton Ave died in a rare accident Wednesday evening. Left asleep in a carriage, the mother found the baby dead when she returned. A hole in the carriage filigree had been patched with cord, and the child became entangled, choking itself. The body was found suspended in the buggy, and a physician could not revive it.
The president sent a large slate of nominations for postmasters including Thomas P. Heffarman in Dunkirk and John S. Kane in Sing Bing, with others in Lancaster Laurel Mount Vernon Van Wert and more. Mrs Clara Beckner refiled a racy complaint against Attorney Jessa D Hamrick. The second complaint, filed Thursday by Attorney Kern, repeats prior allegations. Hamrick entered appearance and waived service for speedy hearing. He asserts he can disprove the charges and the suit seeks $1000.
A Washington special reports a House opposition tally showing enough pledged votes to defeat the income tax. Some representatives listed as opponents may still back the measure if it aids their districts' industries when the tariff bill is considered.
A cylinder of oxygen gas exploded at the New York Oxygen Company's works at First Avenue and Twenty second Street on Thursday afternoon. Thomas Gregg a Japorer was blown to pieces while John Moran and Fred Gardner were badly wounded. Several others in the building were injured and more victims may be discovered among the ruins.

He reportedly believes he is training for a prize fight. His condition is linked to family business worries and fears over the Wilson tariff bill.
In September 1892 Laura Smalley, age 18, rode home cows when Henry Eberling lured her with alcohol and drove to Cincinnati. Kidnap charges were pressed, then reversed by the supreme court finding Laura able to manage herself. Separately Miss Anna Schantz and Mrs. Susan Morgan screamed when a robber tried to steal a pocketbook. pursuit failed and the thief fled.

Cleveland report says Jimmy Galvin a well known pitcher for the Pittsburg league team last season was arrested Wednesday on robbery charges involving an $892.50 diamond pin and a watch from H N Hubbard a tailor. Three others were also arrested but no property was found with them and all deny guilt.
Chas E Van filed Thursday to dissolve the partnership with Wm A Krause and Lucius Boweman in the Indianapolis wood finishing works. He seeks appointment of a receiver alleging violations of the partnership agreement left the firm in bad financial straits and unable to meet debts. Capital January. Washington January 4 The minority report on the bill to repeal federal election laws is being prepared as an exhaustive review focusing on alleged unjust southern state laws. Democrats will call up the bill possibly this week but will refrain from extensive debate and will let Republicans lead the discussion before passage.
