The Indiana legislature reports a lively Monday with a flag theft probe, Washington’s birthday observance, and bills advancing in the Senate and House. Debates over apportionment, temperance measures, and river-valley road finances show partisan action amid a sleepy session on a patriotic theme.
A mass meeting in Tomlinson hall Monday aims to gauge public sentiment on the local street-railway situation and cheaper fares. Central labor union president Aly. Robert Groff and Col. Eli Gilly will lead as W. P. Fishback presides followed by W. D. Bynum and D. Kennedy with open five minute speeches.
A traveling salesman lured William Davenport and John Rushen with a pay-for-liquor challenge in a Yandes Street saloon. Davenport drank whisky and beer until he collapsed, later dying at City Hospital from meningitis pneumonia linked to the intoxication. Rushen was fined by the police. Davenport, 217 Alvordst, had a troubled record with multiple arrests.
An eight and a half pound girl, born early Sunday at the Harrison home in Indianapolis, resembles the Taavi son family and is described as good tempered. Benjamin Harrison, 64, and Mary Lord Dimmick Harrison, 38, celebrate the birth as friends flood the house with congrats. Dr. Henry Jameson attended. no name announced yet.

The note states that Sherman will appoint Mr. Hanna as his successor and that a long distance call with Senator-elect Foraker confirmed the same plan.

New York dispatches report Senator Sherman urging war if facts prove American citizen Dr. Ricardo Ruiz was killed in Cuba. Consul-general Lee demands full investigation, release of Americans, and possible policy reversal if Spain is at fault.
