About 20 women met at the Propydeum to form The women's sanitary society of Indianapolis. The group will inspect and report on sanitation near homes, support the board of health, and advocate enforcement of the garbage ordinance and street cleanliness rules. The society elected Bis. Edward Dean as vice president and plans future meetings.
Dr. James Young died at St. Vincent’s hospital in January 1892. His last will, dated January 27, is challenged in Judge Brown’s court by Dr. Thomas Young and Dr. Thomas Young Jr. alleging unsound mind and undue influence by Father Alerding. He bequeathed $1,000 to various religious orders and to each child, with a plan to create a fund from rents and interest to satisfy legacies. If funds fall short in five years, property may be mortgaged or sold to aid a poor school. estate valued at under $3,000.
The New York storm halted sea traffic with waves reaching fifty feet and vessels coming in partly frozen. The Santuit arrived in a sinking condition with its crew barely able to move in intense cold. Four other steamers battled ice and gale winds, over a dozen tugs aided ships unable to anchor while several trading vessels are overdue. No lives lost yet, bay filled with ice endangering navigation.
CHILLICOTHE O Feb 21 Capt. Jas C Crawford a county commissioner and his son were crossing the Ohio Southern railroad when their buggy was struck by a passenger train. The father son and horse were killed in the crash near the city.
A congressional subcommittee left Terra Haute after hearing Col. Richard W. Thompson testify on Panama canal expenditures. Thompson denied illegitimate payments, noted lavish salaries among committee members, and said no funds were used improperly though some payments to a writer were acknowledged. Other local items include a lawsuit against ex-legislator C. J. Kern, a coroner's death inquiry, and marriage licenses.
John L Sullivan, famed world heavyweight champion, arrives at Bates house in Chicago before noon. The 12 year titleholder disputes Corbett’s remarks, defends Mitchell’s ability, and pledges a personal challenge if Corbett insists he is better. He speaks of theatrical aims and readiness to fight at any time.

Lawrence Mannion of Boston offered in a Tuesday letter to wager 25000 to 16000 or 100000 to 60000 that Corbett will knock Mitchell down and out within six rounds.
Niw Onurans February 21 Gen Beauregard died Monday night funeral Wednesday in Metaris cemetery. Born near New Orleans May 28 1818 West Point graduate served in Mexican War and Civil War fired the first gun at Fort Sumter. After surrendering to Sherman and Johnston he later managed the Louisiana Lottery.
In Rome on February 21 the pope's jubilee celebrations continued as pilgrims from around the world flocked to the city. Irish pilgrims were welcomed by the pope who, via a letter from Mer Eislett, expressed joy at the Irish devotion and thanked them for organizing the pilgrimage. He urged continued faith and devotion, and granted benediction to all Catholics while each pilgrim could kiss the pope's hand.
In Falshear ten miles from Richmond Joe Wade shot Deputy Sheriff Hellman. Wade then fatally wounded by Hoffman who was mortally wounded in turn after exchanging shots. Hoffman died shortly after from his wounds.

Chiago report claims Gov McKinley faces resignation after Walker scandal and may hand over Canton farm property to trustee Kohlsaat. It alleges he and Mrs McKinley would sacrifice all possessions, including their home, to prevent losses. McKinley in Cleveland denies plans to quit Ohio governorship.

Coroner probes the death of Mrs John Shawcross after her body was removed from a coffin at Southeran cemetery. Mrs Manning testified that Mrs Shawcross claimed husband John Shawcross tried to poison her. Shawcross denies abuse and any poisoning, with testimony unfolding amid a long legal saga and related notes on a separate case.
