A wedding at the White House unites Alice Roosevelt Longworth with Ohio’s Nicholas Longworth. Bishop Satterlee officiated as President Roosevelt, Mrs. Roosevelt, and guests witnessed the ceremony. Afterward, the couple departed in a Mayflower car for Palm Beach for their honeymoon amid extensive pageantry and congratulations from dignitaries and guests.
A 12 year old Lima girl sent a rag doll to First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt and included a handwritten note of sorrow over not affording a better gift. Virginia Representative William A. Jones presented Longworth with ancient applejack on behalf of Thomas B. Hurgt, with a request to pass the rattle and a Virginia inspired poem to his bride. Langworth accepted the items and said he would deliver both to his wife.
Ward Watson of Chatesten has announced candidacy for the Republican nomination for the appellate judgeship in the southern division. Fred A. Simms of Frankfort remains the sole Republican candidate for secretary of state, now in Indianapolis for political matters. Simms, former secretary of the state committee, visited party headquarters and spoke with Carl W. Riddick before rejoining colleagues at the state House and Maypole hotel.
