Gov Durbin has reportedly demanded the resignation of John S McDonald the New Albany reformatory board member. McDonald said he would respond after the governor acts and hinted at a public hearing. officials offered no official comment on other resignations.
Mayor Bookwalter and Council finance chair Wynne defend borrowing 240,000 for a North side boulevard while urging repair of city streets. Councilman Meyer calls a mass meeting at 7:50 p.m. Thursday at the O P Marton club Shelby and Cottareave to discuss funding, with city council vote expected next Monday.

Senator Albert M. Burns of South Bend is dangerously ill with a complication of heart disease and Bright's disease in his Hotel Eng lish apartments. Dr. Combs attends him, oxygen used, slight improvement reported after noon. Burns, recovering from a serious spell, fears he came down to opening too soon. He has been in bed about ten days, briefly downstairs then returning to bed after overexertion. He serves in the second session of his term and is a Republican. He is superintendent of the Sandage Street Steamship company.
Three carpenters Alonzo LacFeber George Tobin and Louis Louis fell from a third story scaffold in a New Jersey residence Wednesday. LeFeber suffered a leg injury requiring medical care at home while Tobin and Louis Louis escaped serious harm. All workers were employed by Contractor Hubush and were atop the south side nailing boards when a supporting timber broke. The city ambulance took LeFeber to 40 Rural Street.
Senate conferees agree on the department of commerce measure. The bill now goes to the president for signature. Indianapolis weather forecast calls for progression from partly cloudy today to colder conditions tonight and Thursday with a drop in temperature.
Halifax. The steamer Bulgaria from Belfast to New York with 10 percent passengers arrived short of coal on Wednesday morning. Also mentions a medical tonic claim for coughs and throat ailments and an advertisement for Bargalia at Baldwin's.
The anti trust bill failed after a day of debate. In a decisive vote 0 to 17 the measure was indefinitely postponed. Attorney General Miller, author of the bill, lamented that the state officer cannot curb trusts when the Senate denies the needed authority.
Representative Tarkington voices skepticism about an anti cigarette bill, saying it won’t affect him as he sources goods from Chicago. He argues passage would boost smuggling and hurt pocket trade. The body of Sen Fong a Chinaman who died Saturday in Terre Haute was brought to Indianapolis yesterday afternoon. A funeral cortege of fellow Chinamen will attend the obsequies. He was a laundryman and a member of the Masonic order. The funeral will be Saturday or Monday at C. E. Kregelo’s chapel. Burial will be at Crown Hill.
