German Lutherans to Build New Brick Church Branch

The German Lutheran congregation plans a new brick church branch for members living east of Hast Street and Prospect Street. Rev. Theodore Shortell, the new assistant pastor, leads the district. The current church at New Jersey and McCarty streets, built about 18 years ago, serves over 400 members with German sermons. English sermons may be added on Sunday evenings if satisfactory. The German Mutual Fire Insurance Company of the Lutheran Church, insurer of member properties in Indianapolis, reports low rates and $1,100,000 in coverage, despite recent losses.
