FRANKFORT Ky February Monday night Gov Taylor refused to discuss whether the Louisville agreement was binding saying I refuse to talk about it. The terse exchange followed questions about the pact and its implications for state affairs.
A Washington telegram to Gov. Taylor dated February 4 argues the legislature should meet and disputes be settled in civil courts. It warns federal aid cannot be provided while the Kentucky legislature is in session and predicts Democrats will portray Taylor as the aggressor if violence occurs. The message requests an answer.
FRANKFORT Ky Feb 6 Gov Taylor said he had no knowledge of any Louisville agreement but would issue a statement later after hearing from Louisville. The exchange occurred Tuesday morning when asked if the Louisville pact had been accepted.
The telegram from Lieut Quy reports Marshal being in conference last night and unable to reach London by noon as expected. Representative Black relayed the message indicating the timing issue and pending relocation plans.

The body will rest in an old brick vault near the cemetery until a large monument lot is secured.
The body of Senator Goebel arrived at 8 36 a m at the C and O depot to a throng of about 5000. Sobs filled the scene as friends helped bear the casket to Odis fellows hall for lying in state. Crowds gather in Indianapolis as Brigadier General Henry W Lawton is mourned and moved to Arlington. The lineup included Vincennes, Muncie, Lebanon, Madison units, Indianapolia militia companies, and Knights of Pythias among others.
Crowds lined the sidewalks watching the procession as it moved north on Meridian Street to the circle then west on Market Street. The body entered the Washington Street entrance of the capitol and lay in state during its stay in Indianapolis.
The procession honored Gen Lawton with Robert Tyndall leading the dead hero’s bier. Battery A in red overcoats and old soldiers in large numbers joined a solemn, almost silent march past Gov. Mount and Gen. Shafter. Weather made the trip muddy as the route echoed memories of Bryan’s 1896 visit and past celebratory parades.
Thousands line Capitol and Market streets as a state house procession passes. A dense crowd surges toward the steps near the state house while police struggle to maintain order amid agitation in the rear. The scene is described as mostly orderly despite the crush.
About 10 000 people filled the capitol grounds and pressed toward the state house steps in a chaotic crush. Police formed lines as officers pulled individuals from the mass and escorted them into the building amid screams and frightened bystanders including a mother with a baby. At the Washington entrance a large casket box was moved to a funeral car and taken to the capitol. Honorary pallbearers including Admiral Brown and several generals positioned around the catafalque. The High School glee club sang sacred hymns from the rotunda as flags and floral designs concealed the casket.
Eyewitnesses describe visitors pressing toward a glass covered casket as rumors spread that the dead general’s face could be seen. Officers directed the crowd to move quickly while a single black line formed through the building from south to north amid muddy footprints.
The state house displayed lavish honors for Indiana's hero dead with a black draped catafalque in the rotunda surrounded by tall palms and flags from the battleship Indiana. From arches to balconies, wreaths and floral designs from groups like the First brigade Eighth army corps, Grand lodge I O O F, Loyal Legion, and others adorned the corridor and railings.
Mrs. Lawton, widow of the hero, stood on the south balcony of the rotunda with her sisters Mrs. Culbertson and Mrs. Fannie Craig and her son Manley Lawton to view the funeral decorations. Gov. Mount’s parlor and the catafalque were shown to her, and Col. Wilson escorted her through corridors to the balcony where she watched the procession with tears and sadness.
Mrs. Lawton expressed deep emotion after the capitol service and informal reception. Samuel A. Culbertson praised the decorations and kindness of Indianapolis and Indiana as her brother-in-law noted she bore the ordeal bravely. Gen Lawton’s memory stirred pride in Indiana as preparations for the funeral in Arlington proceed on Friday.
The casket was not opened provoking great disappointment as an honor guard passed in single file and committees led by Gov Mount and Gen Shafter arrived. Soldiers stood at rotunda entrances while police, under Sergeants Courtney and Peace, maintained near by duties.
