Prominent Indiana Republicans mingle with leaders at Claypool Hotel as the Seventh district convention postponement is decided. Delegates debate time, with Fairbanks arrival and key figures like Whitam Boss and Chipman Woods observed amid lobby intrigue and committee votes.
Congressmen Brick Crumpacker Chaney and Gilbert mingled with attendees as Jesse Overatrent appeared at the hotel. Lincoln Teague members planned a two day session in Marion led by John C. Chaney. Gale, organist, plays hymns every morning including Sundays, awakening Carnegie.
Horace B. White, freed by a Pennington County judge, is cleared to wed his beloved after a decree read in qupenor court. He had feared a two year remarriage ban due to a prior divorce from a nonresident wife, but the judge's reading and a supporting letter from his former spouse changed the outcome. White proclaimed a happy New Year as he prepares to marry immediately.
Fire in Niagara Falls at 5:00 am gutted the Porter Hotel and adjacent shops including a sporting goods store and Lehigh Valley Railroad office. The Imperial and Temperance hotels suffered damage while ammunition stored in the sporting goods store exploded. Loss estimated at $130,000 with no injuries.
In Chicago Secretary Shaw states Walsh did not steal from banks and that all deposits will be returned. He notes Walsh’s bank loaned more than 10 percent of its capital to him with girts of security for every dollar withdrawn. The government can only warn and adjust, not arrest, under the long established banking system.
George Amith aged 21 a butcher of SM Maplerst was fined fifty dollars and given ten days in the workhouse on a charge described as biting the arm of his mother. The incident occurred on a Thursday according to court records.

Judge Leathers authorized Thomas Taggart to continue operating the Denteon hotel as receiver. Taggart may borrow up to 3000 dollars if needed.

Three persons were seriously hurt and ten more passengers trapped when a Big Four passenger train wrecked in Illinois. Harry Ware of Chicago was badly cut after being thrown from a sleeping car window. William Odous, a sleeping car porter, was burned. Mrs. Bailey of Chicago suffered broken ribs. Cars overturned and passengers were freed with emergency axes.
