William H. Smythe was shot in his Masonic temple office on Thursday. Detectives hunt for a "blonde woman" while theories of attempted murder versus self-inflicted death clash with family opposition. Smythe remains conscious and on the road to recovery as questions about the weapon and concealment persist.
A squiver was discovered at the bottom of a building’s elevator shaft on Friday. Authorities investigated the shaft area for hazards and to determine how the creature came to rest there.
In a McVicker's theater rehearsal of Lost River Chicago Miss Mary Sanders the lead actress was seriously injured when a lamb attacked her. The beast charged props and smashed mirrors and furniture before escaping to the alley via the stage door. It was later captured at the stockyards marking its first stage appearance.
In probate court Augusta Uter claims 550 against Otto Dickman estate for 30 dollars for diamonds and 250 for ten weeks nursing. She says a 300 diamond ear ring loaned to Dickman was hers and central to the estate settlement. Edward Dickman, the deceased's brother and administrator, had the diamonds set in a ring and claimed ownership. The estate administration recently shifted to William W. Hammond.
President Sahm of the Board of Works said it would cost about 30000 to open Senate avenue from Merrill to McCarty street through the old steel mill area. The plan includes damages to the rolling mill property and would assess benefits against property values from Washington street to the south city limits.
