Serious rioting erupted in Havana on Tuesday night. American regulars stopped the violence after a Spanish sailor was killed and several Cubans and Spaniards were wounded. Lt. Miller and a detachment of the Tenth Infantry restored order with bayonets. By Wednesday the city was largely under American control as reinforcements prepared to arrive and policing continued to deter further clashes.
