Marion Tyler, jailed for attempted wife murder, was seized by about 50 masked men who forced the sheriff to surrender the keys and hanged him in the courthouse yard. He had asked to be killed then. the mob carried out the execution with little clue to their identities.
In Scottsburg Indiana on December 24 a mob of about fifty freed Marion Tyler from jail and hanged him in the courthouse yard. Dressed in masks, they demanded keys from the sheriff after overpowering guards and gaining access to the cell. The sheriff and family were frightened as the escape was completed. No one has been identified as the perpetrators.
At nine to ten a m Saturday Gov Mount received a telegram from the sheriff reporting a mob overpowered them and hanged Marion Tyler from the jail. The governor ordered all available means to arrest the offenders and promised aid if needed.
Gov. Mount said the only information received was a brief telegram from the sheriff and he did not yet know the course of action. He pledged that such a crime will not go unnoticed and that every effort will be made to ferret out the guilty parties and bring them to trial.

Marion Tyler, a 22 year old Indianapolis streetcar extra conductor, shot his wife Laura Garriott of Scottsburg after an unresolved feud with her relatives. He then wounded himself with two shots, later recovering. a suicide letter blamed loneliness and love for the desperate act.
Deputy U S marshal Jesse Peck arrested Arkansas moonshiners Wesley Knight and son Henry in Indiana after a five days in disguises. The operation started near Mifflin and culminated at Richard Knight’s house with handcuffs, a tense standoff, and a forced capture. Neighbors dispute Peck's account, insisting no arrest occurred at the house.
In Chicago on December 24, Gunner J. W. Flannagan of the battleship Iowa was Hobsonized at a Navy reception. Forty three kisses were given to the young gunner, noted as the youngest in the navy.

Two drivers will handle day and night duties, staying at the headquarters stable ready for calls. The new plan puts doctors in the ambulance by the time horses are hitched, reducing response time.
