A report alleges a long standing practice in the city clerk’s office where fines paid through bondsmen are not collected. Prosecutor Pugh considers suing to recover uncollected amounts and fees, citing abuse of the docket and potential loss to the state school fund.
A year after Oliver Petty was fined for assault and battery a colored man later blinded him in a separate incident. Petty, nearly blind, received a notice about the fine being staind before police headquarters helped him. Ex Prosecutor Pugh waived his fee and the judge remitted both the fine and docket fee.
An elderly man, E Van Yelgerhouse, 6 533 W Fifteenth St, attempting to cross N Illinois St near the Maine saloon, was struck by a fast wagon driven by two colored men who fled. He is severely injured and the city ambulance took him home. Police lack a description. Louis C Deschler received 9000 cigars and tobacco leaves from Cuba, duty 147.
The notice advertises a full regular dinner and a lunch special at 15 cents. It mentions St Charles hotel Nerachoen as proprietor and McCres Union station as a location reference.

Higgins is cheerful and progressing, performing tight work and sweeping duties. He is deemed a model prisoner and may smoke a pipe at night with doctors approving stimulants only if deemed necessary.
Dr C J Fletcher was not indicted on criminal assault charges after the grand jury failed to find sufficient evidence. Grace Hammond accused him of ether influence and assault. Other defendants released included John James for robbery and Glen Miles for criminal assault. Harry McAfee was indicted for stabbing Wm Cousins. The jury also noted county institutions in first class condition.
