On the transport Sheridan sailing from Manila to San Francisco 1555 discharged soldiers, angered by treatment, seized the ship, tossed arms overboard, and forced officers to perform their duties. They looted the larder, drove off civilian passengers, and only partial reforms occurred after officers urged restraint.
Mayor Bookwalter and D M Parry urged Governor Durbin to parole Commodore Higgins, Indianapolis ex councilman, after failing to meet him. The governor has refused parole and no change is reported. Parry defends clemency while Bookwalter calls Higgins a scapegoat who has suffered.
Eli Daniels, colored, convalescent at City hospital after a rare surgical operation. He was stabbed in the heart with a clasp knife by another man on November 16. Dr Nietert, hospital superintendent, inserted two stitches and recovery is expected.
Engineer C C Brown of the Commercial club track elevation commission says elevation over Morris street to South street by the Indianapolis Southern is feasible with a 2 percent grade, requiring a six to eleven foot street cut. A 1 percent grade is possible if South street is lowered further, affecting excavation from Missouri to Senate avenues. Brown will report interview results with Rev Father Gavish and address Southsiders’ attitudes as board President Megrew denies board requests.
Martinsville resident E F Branch found a $4.25 voucher for witness services in the 1883 Johnson vs Overstreet legislative contest. He submitted it to the state auditor amid questions whether the historic voucher should be honored now. The 1883 race shaped state politics with Tom Hanna as lieutenant governor and H C Huffstetter as secretary.
Shelbyville resident Jolly Sid Conger visits the governor to discuss the newborn girl. The family remains deadlocked on a name as Conger rejects Zuriah proposed by his mother-in-law due to spelling and future writing concerns. The dispute centers on choosing a fitting name for the two month old baby.
Forecast for Indianapolis and vicinity through 8 p m December 10 calls for clearing and slightly colder conditions. Members age 50 to 65 presidents of county fair associations plus nine expiring terms will be considered for re election. Charlies Downing seeks re election as secretary and J E McDonald is expected to be named president again.

The day’s bills include navy measures by Hale and public buildings for Battle Creek Michigan Superior Wisconsin McKeesport Butler Boone and a ship subsidy bill by Senator Frye.
The State medical board will hear Dr. Barry S Kiskadden defend against revocation of his Indiana medical certificate. He is described as a pile doctor who spends time in Huntington and Detroit, accused of mis representation about residency. Also up for board action are Dr. E H Mendenhall of Abingdon over alleged false college graduate claims and Dr. John Shephard of Judson for allegedly obtaining a duplicate certificate and swapping his name onto another.
John Arnold twenty of 1011 Road Street North Indianapolis will stand in police court on December ninth for grand larceny after confessing to penny weighting a plan to swap a cheap imitation ring for real diamonds. Detectives traced him after he visited Julius Walks and Mullallys and Mayer & Co where he allegedly obtained other rings. Detective Haley arrested him Saturday night.
Harry Brunaugh, Mayor Bookwalter's private secretary, declares he will no longer engineer raffles after a brief stint to aid a financially strapped man. He recounts losing a dollar of the donor's money and being pressured by ticket sellers, leading to his decision to stop.
Gov Durbin received a letter from Charleston exposition managers urging him to name an Indiana baz. Samuel C Shutt state house engineer reports returning from Zanesville where he visited his mother. County officers extended by the last legislature to Jan 1 wonder if new commissions from the governor and secretary of state are needed. Attorney general Taylor says new commissions are not needed. The act extended old commissions and commissions are of little value.
A chorus of bankers and financiers say money remains easy and conditions show health with no signs of stringency. Several bankers warn that rates may rise soon as global events and deficits push toward higher costs and bond issues.
Louis Bush of St. Louis reports locating John F. Zimmerman who was kidnapped 50 years ago in West Philadelphia Germany and brought to the U.S. by his uncle. Zimmerman, found at 1437 Roscoe, learns he is heir to a father’s left estate through his mother’s efforts.
The grand jury will not investigate Duncan Dewar's death, attributed by physicians to an assault a year and a half earlier. The assailant was fined one dollar plus costs, and Charles Benedict noted the case was settled and questioned whether murder charges could be pursued after so much time.

Fire chief Coots filed charges with the safety board on Monday against Frank Smith a pipeman of hose company No. 14 accused of appearing for duty drunk and Albert Van Camp of hose company No. 18 accused of quarreling and using insulting language toward another fireman. Hearings scheduled for Wednesday morning. Both men have clean records and are suspended pending trial.
Early Sunday police raided two gambling houses. At Pop Fuller’s place on W Washington Street they arrested seven men and at John Montgomery’s on 946 Virginia Avenue they found four. Cases were continued in police court Monday.
Charles Rogers consul to Zanzibar seeks the Republic party nomination for joint senator from Martin Lawrence and Orange counties. He will be opposed by J B Lloyd and by Dr Laughlin a former representative. Rogers is regarded as the Fairbanks candidate.
Nettie and Arthur Hofman, prominent young couple from Millersville, were married Sunday night at Broad Ripple in a surprise ceremony. They will reside with the bride’s parents after the wedding.
Irene Allison testifies in superior court that she washed and served at the Tate home for seven years including cooking, cleaning, and tending beds. She claims Mrs. Tate promised to leave her the entire estate and seeks 15620 from the Tate heirs, most going to St. Joseph’s Church. The case was before Judge Carter.
About 20 members and wives of the Christiq ministers association shared a luncheon at the Denil son. Hilton A Brown read a paper on Thomas Paine as the program feature. The rest of the time was given to an extensive banquet including Kingfish, beef, turtle style calf's head, roast rooster, London ice, salmon, beans, sweet potatoes, apple pie, sage pudding and assorted cheeses.
