Mrs Jozeph Hane of 208 North Meridian Avenue reported Thursday afternoon that a jewel case containing watches, diamond pins and rings worth about 20 dollars was stolen from a bedroom drawer. Police investigated, detectives searched the home, and pawnshops were checked to recover the items.
Testimony in a board investigation into Miss Emily Rhoades at the Industrial School for Girls includes affidavits from Flora Kerr alleging harsh discipline, crowded conditions, and lax supervision. On the anniversary of his birth Mayor-elect Charles A. Rookwalter took the oath of office on Thursday morning. He will not assume duties until June 1. Judge Thomas B. Whatton administered the oath to the police court in a brief ceremony with the mayor-elect proceeding to the bench unassisted.
In Crawfordsville Ind a jury found John J James guilty of first degree murder for the Beckner killing near Darlington. Derrickson and an elder preacher were with James when two shots fired left Beckner dead and Derrickson wounded. James claimed Beckner tried to kill the Negro before suicide. In Wyoming near Green River a head on crash between Union Pacific Overland Limited and a westbound freight killed sixteen and injured many. The Limited was running at about a mile a minute to regain time. Names of some dead include Sunes Buabee, chef. Rosenbaum, Laws. two postal clerks. electrician Stetors. engineer Brink. brakeman Smith.

In New York on December 1, John A Hyland a chief bookkeeper for the Aluzue Reserve Site company faced inquiry in an insurance investigation. He was asked about entries charging sums to the estate of Edward Harper former company president. Payments included 820 and 8000 warrants drawn for M B Bros and William A Butts, yet reasons remained unexplained.
