Spanish Labor Unions and Wages Reported in Madrid

In Madrid, Spanish workmen form 34 unions totaling about 262,000 members, many anarchists, aiming to press state confessions. Motormen are poorly paid at six tenths to half a cent daily for ten hours, with extra six hours on two off days monthly. Workers bear half the uniform cost, incur fines, and contribute to a mutual society covering doctors’ fees and partial wages for three months plus funeral expenses. Most laborers earn only around 11 cents a day, with no one earning more than $1.20 daily.
