Brightwood Fire Destroys Gillette Bent Wood Plant

A Tuesday night blaze at C. S. Gillette & Sons Bent Wood plant in Brightwood ruins the two story brick factory. Loss is about 75000 with only 25000 insured. Body of Fugate Still Lost After River Rescue Attempt

The body of missing John Fugate has not been found after the river was dynamited on Wednesday to recover it. Fugate was reportedly seen near the corner of Maryland Street and Capitol Avenue on Saturday night around o'clock, intoxicated, with his horse about to bolt. Street Cleaning Bids Placed for 1897 Contract

The Board of works reviewed bids for cleaning improved streets in 1897. Six firms submitted offers across five city districts, with district bids ranging from 9 060 to 22 000 dollars. Whole city bids were 39 800 for J Dobson 67 275 for Indianapolis street cleaning 95 000 for Kennington. Per week rates for 10 000 sq ft ranged 19 to 27 cents. Dobson led in most bids and may secure the contract if security is sufficient.
