The American steamship Paneca went down with its entire cargo after a fierce gale at midnight. Twenty of 25 crew drowned as heavy waves toppled the vessel. Advices from London report the British steamer Behrs wrecked on a reef, with cargo valued at $100, passengers saved.

Frank and Mrs Sweetman mourn two young children Leslie aged 4 and Romona aged 2 from diphtheria Sunday night. Romona showed early symptoms, Leslie worsened then both died within hours of each other. Funeral held Monday at home with Crown Hill Cemetery burial in a lengthy, ornate service. Parents heartbroken and fearing nervou s strain from the loss.
Deputy Game Commissioner Martin arrested Henry Bornamann for adopting a song bird near the Monon bridge over Fulsterk on Sunday. He was released with papers filed Monday. Officials say the law protects birds and warns parents to guide youths, with fines from 19 to 50 dollars plus costs for shooting a song bird.
