Thomas Barnett Dies After Heart and Stomach Illness
Thomas Barnett, age 84, died at 390 North Mississippi Street from heart and stomach diseases. Born in Pennsylvania, he moved to Indianapolis 35 years ago and joined the fire department in 1862. He served as watchman in the old fire tower for ten years and later with several companies and at headquarters, retiring two years ago due to ill health. Two Indianapolis men, James Rolin and Edward Schuessler, died or were severely injured after tumbling from a Monon train during an excursion to Cedar Lake.
