A petition by over 400 veterans seeks Thomas Tianna’s nomination for the legislature.
Police seek a colored man who entered 272 S Hlinais st and left with two suits of underwear. Nerenberg pursued the thief who produced a knife and struck him. The suspect escaped. Isaac Hyde, hungry and angry, admits beating his wife after finding no supper. Judge Cox fines him $1 and costs in sympathy.

Mrs. Sarah L. Smith, accompanied by her two young daughters, told Justice Habib on Tuesday that her husband Frank Ju. Smith deserted her and their children while she was ill. A warrant for his arrest was issued and placed with Constable Tolin.
In West Indianapolis a widow, Eliza Beck, advertised for a partner to help run a small store. Thomas Robinson loaned her 800 and received a death payable note and a gold watch. When Beck’s estranged husband returned, the partnership dissolved and Robinson sought the watch in replevin. The court ruled in Beck’s favor.
Isaac Abbott John Wheat and Lucinda Barbour escaped a workhouse then Wheat and Abbott were found Sunday afternoon causing a disturbance on Corast. Barbour smashed windows on W Second st Monday night but fled. Guards deny permission for night city visit. Superintendent Wheatley cites staff shortages and unnotified escapes. Barbour was released by order of Judge Cox. Abbott returned to work the next day.

BUZZARDS BAY Mass Aug 24 President Cleveland announced at Gray Gables the appointment of David T Francis former Missouri governor as secretary of the interior to take effect Sept 1 The move follows Hoke Smith resignation over his financial views and Francis is expected to assume office on the date named in Smiths resignation.
James McGraw with a bloody shirt and scratched face faced assault and battery charges after a dispute at home on Monday evening. He allegedly threatened his wife over dinner, splashed water, and attempted to throw boiling water. A daughter intervened as both women scratched his face. McGraw was fined $25 in police court.
Patrolman Louis Sheridan loses his job after a Board of Safety hearing. Dan Burgen testified of being clubbed without cause while merchants complained of loiterers near Columbia and Malatraves. Sheridan denied striking Burgen. a prior pattern of charges influenced the decision. Maud Benbow filed insult charges but withdrew after identifying another man. A Labor Day parade will showcase fire and police forces for taxpayers. Mayor Taggart and officials will review from the Denison balcony.
