Shelbyville Indiana August 24 Jesse Denlinger died from injuries suffered in Morris own natural gas explosion. He remained unconscious after severe burns. Five others injured are not expected to recover fully.
Robert Dawson aged 67 died at City hospital from injuries after stepping in front of an electric car at Washington and California avenues. Motorman Glass warned him repeatedly. a boy witnessed the incident. Dawson, suspected drunk, had a severe facial gash and leg wounds. His wife visited the hospital and said they lived on Kreitlein's row. The coroner was notified. Glass was not arrested.

M A Stowell aged 88 died at 4 am Thursday from injuries after a heavy wagon owned by O Conner grocery and driven by Martin Gevins passed over his body at Meridian and Washington streets. His sons Myron and John Stowell, Pittsburg newspaper men, were notified. coroner Beck to investigate for possible blame.

Senator White of California introduces a bill to redefine trusts and monopolies and to empower courts to issue and perpetuate injunctions against unlawful combinations. Chairman Wilson appoints Henry Talbott as clerk of the ways and means committee. Senate has 687 bills introduced, tariff-focused. Henry W. Snow becomes sergeant at arms. H. H. Moler named cashier. The five minute house debate on the Wilson bill begins with varied positions on repeal and bi mentallism. Senator Peffer speaks on the silver issue referencing a large voter base.
Garbage collector Thomas J. Johnson sues Greenbury Walker John Martin Arthur Kimbrough Isaac Kimbaugh John Wells and Charles Hunt to restrain garbage collection under his contract. Attorney Aliller sought continuance citing numerous affidavits while preparing to challenge ordinance validity. Judge Brown extended the case to Friday morning.

Thieves entered the unlocked side door of T. W. Brouse at 72 Broadway between 2 and 4 PM Monday, seizing a pocketbook, a gold watch, watch chains, charms, earrings, a Canadian coin and 15 cents. The raid totaled over $200 in stolen valuables, with the burglars leaving the scene as Brouse later reported to police.
In New York on August 24 strikes by longshoremen led to clashes between union and non union men. At Pier 15 a mob stoned about twenty four Italian workers and forced them from their posts near Wall Street. Pier 11 near Clyde line faced further fights as non union labor halted work and bruises occurred at multiple wharves.

Jacob Allen and Neal Miller were sentenced to two years in the penitentiary and fined $10 by Judge Cox of the criminal court for attempting to kill Wm Spearman. On May 22 a pool game in Wade Hill's saloon led to a fight in which Allen and Miller used knives rocks pool balls and boot heels on Spearman. He was removed to City hospital with a badly bruised head and an eight inch gash on the left side. All colored.
Losses in Merced Falls California include the Merced woolen mills Nelsons flour mill and a large woolen goods warehouse burning Thursday with about 200000 dollars in losses and 100000 dollars insured. In St Louis Missouri the Western braes foundry at Sixth and Walnuusta burned Thursday morning with about 50000 dollars in losses. Illinois Day at the fair drew a huge crowd with a parade including international representatives and a governor reviewed national guard followed by cowboy Mexican Indian exhibitions and a large pyrotechnic display Thursday night.
