Indiana hosts a chrysanthemum and sunflower display at Tomlinson Hall with prominent figures inclining toward the sunflower as national emblem. President Harrison and family sign in favor, others submit varied preferences while Beales offers a large sunflower prize to boost popular support.
Saturday night the Haverly-Cleveland minstrel company will give a single per ferformance at the Grand, and the reputation of past seasons insures an enjoyable program. Next week the Park will have the Bennett-Moulton opera company, an attraction which in past years has ranked as the best of the amusement season at that place. Several of the old favorites are with the company and a repertory of the most popular operas has been elected.
In Montreal on August 24, reports indicate an imminent gathering of business and political figures from Quebec. They intend to press Ottawa for immediate action against the United States over ongoing Eshring sea fishery tensions and seek a united stance.
Aug 24 London crowd presses for unconditional pardon for Mrs Maybrick amid renewed protests against Home Secretary Matthews and Judge Stephen. Public anger centers on alleged judicial overreach and insufficient evidence. Maybrick’s health deteriorates, with reports she may not survive days.
In San Francisco dated August 24 Judge Levy ruled Caroline Jackson a free legitimate heir. Born in slavery to enslaved parents she challenged inheritance claiming illegitimacy. The court held slave marriages void but emancipation act granted legitimacy, awarding the property to Caroline.
In Ashland Wisconsin on August 25 Henry Eck of Duluth defeated Henry Beemar known as the cowboy in a five round slaughtering match for 250 dollars. Eck won after a brutal contest with all rounds close and fierce.
Eva P Kotteman filed Saturday for divorce from William Kotteman a Washington street furniture dealer alleging cruel and inhuman treatment Elijah Basket seeks release from bonds to Louisa claiming she has endured three prior husbands and that her experience is anicious he is said to have been arrested falsely for failure to provide Infidelity and other weaknesses are alleged William Southard has avoided arrest since July on charges of assault with intent to kill He was arrested Friday night and to be tried in mayor's court next Tuesday Crushed Anacra Wrecked Car at Wabash Indiana a freight car jumped track and Warren Rowley Elkheart was trapped under it badly mangled a 60yearold married father of three.

Turner's dramatic company, famed for Past the Age, opens season at Tipton on Sept 9. J Milton Turner bought a St Louis house after government money. A colored man in Ottawa Kansas celebrated a back pension of 1200 by buying a mule melon razor and a catfish. Warsaw colored people chose August for emancipation anniversary and fifteenth amendment. Springfield colored people plan celebration on Sept 23.
A lively day ends with crowds dispersing as state house stair matting tears, tobacco stains cover doors, and sidewalks littered with peanut shells and banana skins. Citizens applaud, while cleanup crews sweep and scrub to ready the city for the next event.
Report says gas trust directors discussed transferring the plant to eastern capitalists in a bid to form a coalition of gas interests to push up rates. Judge Lamb told a Sun reporter no such topic was raised and that the directors lack power to sell the plant.

Wilbur Reyes and Special Policeman McShuilt figure in a pending case. Several other lawsuits seek damages from Cincinnati to Boston, and a grand jury will investigate. A hospital report notes Kate Rigga, 61, died after a stroke at Van Camp’s fruit cannery. William Terrell faces foreclosure claims totaling one hundred fifty four dollars and ninety two cents. William Short, a box maker, dies after a fall from a horse. A quartet of Chicago crooks, released on commitments for idling and loitering, leave the city.
Railroad announces Sunday excursion to Hamilton Ohio via the C H D line with a 2 rate for the round trip. Train departs Indianapolis 3 56 a m and returns from Hamilton at 7 5 p m on the same day.
In a lively August afternoon at Athletic Park Indianapolis hosted Cleveland in a 7 to 6 comeback. Seery and Glasscock led offense with Gruber and Snyder contributing key plays as Rusie and Twitchell matched early, while McGeachy Bassett and Tebeau powered late scoring for Cleveland securing a tight win over Indianapolis.
Box scores show Boston seven runs thirteen hits four errors while Washington had nine errors. New York two runs five hits two errors. Ben Has Gone. President Harrison departs after shaking hands with about 100 people at the Denison house then thanks the hotel proprietor. A large crowd cheers as the three carriages depart for the depot. The special train is attached to the 3:16 Big Four and should reach Dear Park by 7:00 Saturday morning.
