Judge Taylor appoints James F. Paley receiver to oversee the iron hall order amid findings of mismanagement and diverted funds. Testimony details a $200,000 transfer to the Mutual bank and disputed balances, with a $754000 bond set for the receiver.
A meeting in Atlantic City decided that Supreimer prelate Dubois cashier Hayes of Mutual Bank and Assignee Stockwell should proceed to Indianapolis to expose who is responsible for the order’s transactions with the Mutual Bank. An attachment for 1000 dollars was issued here against the iron hall. Branches in the city began selling assets and funds are in local banks amid a temporary injunction. Judge Barnard has appointed a receiver for the local iron hall branch.
The seventeenth biennial meeting of the supreme lodge Knights of Pythias of the world convened in Kansas City on August 4th. The event opened with a public reception at the grand opera house, attended by Gov. Francis, Mayor Cowherd, the grand chancellor of Missouri, and other dignitaries. A parade followed and about 60,000 people filled the city as the lodge began its private sessions. In Franklinton Louisiana on August 23 authorities closed in on Eugene Bunch the famed bandit. His companion Hapgood surrendered as Bunch opened fire a volley struck him down and he died after firing twice more. Detective Jackson who led the pursuit earns a $3000 reward for the capture.
Adlai Stevenson departed New York for the western states on Tuesday morning. A cloud burst struck Roanoke Virginia around 11 PM Monday causing over 100000 dollars in damage and one fatality. The C P V railroad shops at Portsmouth Ohio were burned on Tuesday with losses under 40000 dollars.
