Ed Cousins and Bill Edwards, wagon men near the Morton monument circle, quarreled over an insult. Edwards drew a knife and stabbed Cousins in the left side after a brick was thrown. Cousins was taken to City hospital with a six inch gash. Edwards fled. Edwards, married with a family, lives on Court street. Cousins is unmarried, living on Second street in Sligo. Edwards is said to be quiet until anger triggers.
William Brennen Jack Schetter and Richard Shaw remain jailed awaiting the next grand jury. They are among the men who attacked Italian organ grinders Louis and Eugene Carrini in front of a Haughville saloon. Eugene Carrini is critically injured. Louis Carrini sustained a cut. Campbell, the man who struck Eugene with a brick, has not been arrested. Police pursued Campbell but he fled toward Indianapolis. Mrs Campbell sought news of her husband. Bonds of one thousand dollars were not posted, keeping the trio in jail.
Green Farley a farmer was shot and killed while walking in his yard as a man hid in nearby woods. Coon Connally was seen leaving the scene and was arrested.
John Steeg of the Board of Public Safety says Republicans on the South side are politicizing the planned celebration for the viaduct completion. Democrats deny trying to use the event for partisan gain, asserting the gathering aims to honor council members who voted for the project and to show gratitude to city officials for delivering the long-awaited viaduct.
In Tiourertap Pennsylvania on August 18 tensions rose as non-union workers sparked unrest near mills. A passing freight train triggered gunfire on militia guards by the riverfront injuring several. one man died later from injuries. An investigation was ordered. In Carnesie's Lawtidice Ville mills non-union workers were pelted by stones while on duty. scout T Fietschman was shot in the groin and is expected to die. no arrests reported.
Charles H. Peckham of Westport Massachusetts surrendered at the Central police station in Fars River on August 18 admitting he killed Mr and Mrs Borden. He described the deed stating he acted from love of blood. Age sixty two, he carried papers from the Russian bureau in Washington. Police deem him possibly insane and investigate his background.
In Harrison township Wastixeton on a Wednesday afternoon John James shot Luther Dean through the windpipe. Dean retaliated and shot James in the arm. Dean is expected to die amid a dispute over James wife.
Johnson City Tenn Aug 18 At Strong Springs a man named Andy Rix was shot and killed during a drunken brawl at a celebration by an unknown assailant. Two nearby boys were wounded and one may die, police said.
London reports the chartered Mercantile bank of London India and China has failed with capital 3 750 000. It operated seven branches in India and Ceylon and others in Java and China backed by the Bank of England and the London joint stock bank. Nearby items note a duke’s death, an earthquake in South Wales, political moves in Iowa, and several local tragedies and sports moves.

Temple B Ballenger aged 53 a widower and carpenter died after falling between sleepers while laying a floor at Morristown Indiana. Reports say three ribs broke with one piercing the heart but relatives question the death and have asked a coroner to investigate beginning Thursday night.
