Trial postponement in Bankert case cited as aiding defense
Special to The Sun Rushville Indiana August 16 preliminary trial of Mrs Anna Bankett accused of killing Norman Cook was postponed to September 1 to allow both sides to arrange evidence Congressman James Watson and law partners assisting the defense. Prosecution seeks to show Cook did not fire all shots and that Bankert knew Cook prior to the upstairs meeting. Witnesses testified of rides, conversations in a Rushville tavern, and a photograph of Mrs Bankert found on Cook. The defense argues Cook acted with passion after an alleged prior relation and that a razor wound was not self inflicted.
