Manila dispatch reports that August 16 1900 troops from the Twelfth Infantry with two cannons attacked 2590 insurgents near Angeles. The Filipinos suffered 200 killed or wounded while American losses were 2 killed and 12 wounded. Angeles was occupied by U S forces as a strategic objective.
Aug 16 dispatch reports MacArthur forces occupying territory from Candalia toward Angeles and Porac with Santa Rita Guagua and Bacolor within lines. Col Smith with ten companies of the Twelfth Infantry and two First Artillery guns attacked entrenched enemy near Angeles, estimated 2,500 with 200 killed and many wounded. American losses 12 wounded. Young’s troops including Fourth Cavalry and Twenty-first Twenty-fourth and Twenty-fifth Infantry move northeast of Manila toward Maraquing San Mateo into the mountains.

Henry Wachtel age 17 of 517 Hendricks street was sent to the grand jury by Acting police judge Collier on a charge of attempting to shoot Gus Felke. The quarrel began over a broken spokes and Felke struck Wachtel with a horseshoe then ran. Wachtel fired, claiming the weapon was loaded with planks, while Felke said a bullet sang near his head. Felke’s sister fainted during the disturbance.

Frank A. Esteb night clerk at the Barton hotel has risen to sit up for the first time since July 28 injury from William H. Barton assault. Both men are in custody on assault and battery charges. Esteb suffered internal injuries from being thrown down stairs and subsequent beating. The case resumes next Wednesday.
