Elmira man leaps from freight, dies in Indianapolis hospital
Jerry Reardon, 22, an iron molder from Elmira New York, jumped from a rapidly moving Vandalia freight two miles from Indianapolis early Saturday. He suffered a broken back and crushed right hip, remained conscious briefly, and died about 50 minutes after arriving at City Hospital. He told doctors his name and that his father lived in Elmira.
