A CRIMINAL DEAD John Lawhorn Dies After Escape Attempt
John Lawhorn dies in the northern prison from injuries after an attempted escape last Friday night. He had been jailed for aiding in the Steffen’s cigar store robbery and had a violent criminal history including an earlier attempt to rob a McCarty Street car conductor. Lawhorn aided by Greenwood associates allegedly framed Peter Conway, who was later arrested for theft. During a failed escape with a companion, the partner was killed and Lawhorn wounded.
