Woman fatally beaten told detectives her former lover, Carl Knoll, attacked her but he claims he was hundreds of miles from Indianapolis at the time. Knoll denies the accusation and seeks to prove his innocence.
Evansville Indiana August 6 the local street car strike ended today as the Carmen's union lifted the walkout after 69 days. No public settlement terms yet released. Detectives hunt a heavyset man seen near the Williams home and race to identify the attacker in the fatal assault on 28 year old Mrs Toledo Williams at 1513 Schurmnn avenue. Her husband Grover Williams found her injured and she remains in critical condition. The case centers on former sweetheart Karl Knoll of South Pittsburg Tennessee as a possible suspect while police seek the weapon and the mystery man seen on the road to the Williams home.
Edward A. Ramsay challenged for the Republican city clerk nomination while veterans expected William H. Peirce to win. Charles B. Stilz ran an unusual race, claiming no slate and spending only on 10,000 printing cards. George W. Koehne battled C. F. Copeland in a tight Fifth Ward outcome.

Attorneys Charles Martindale and Charles Orbison, appointed by Judge Remster, filed their complaint Friday morning advising Denman be disbarred in Indiana. They accuse Denman of defrauding Mrs. Frankie McCrady of 1654 seeking a pardon for her husband Cyrus McCrady, a Seymour resident who served a federal sentence for embezzlement. Denman faces indictment for the same alleged fraud.
Warrants issued Friday for W Lemons and Nancy Lemons in juvenile court on neglect charges for Jewel Lemons who is critically ill with typhoid fever. The judge ordered the child taken to City hospital for treatment. Humane Officer Shine says the Lemons belong to the Church of God sect and refuse medicine.
In incomplete Thursday primary tallies Republicans narrowed the gap to about 5,000 from Bookwalter’s three year prior total. Holtzman’s mayoral vote reached 24,327 with Democrats about 14,000 likely yesterday. Republicans around 20,000. Democratic total roughly 10,000 less than Holtzman’s prior mark.

The Republican ticket lists Samuel Lewis Shank for Mayor Edward A Ramsay for Clerk James A Collins for City Judge and council candidates for six districts: Dr William H Johnson C F Copeland George L Denny Fred C Owen Charles B Stilz John Blumberg with 4a in the second district.
Lew Shank won the Republican mayoral nomination by about 8,500 votes over W N Harding as canvassers tabulated in 117 precincts. Charles A Gauss defeated Charles B Clarke for mayor by about 3,600 votes amid late reports. City clerk race saw Joseph P Turk win Republican nomination by 621 votes. official counts awaited in several council and judge races.
Salvation Army reports from the fresh air farm that sick mothers and little children are improving since Tuesday. The staff notes the sun, air and rest as a great boon. Next Sunday services will be held at the farm with Major Escott preaching. A musical program is planned. Capt Manselle and wife lead weeknight services at Trader's Point church nearby. A lawn fete is planned next Wednesday to benefit the fresh air fund.
Chicago police quit the hunt for Louis Benedetto suspected of kidnapping Grace and Alphonse Viviana from St. Louis and bringing them to Chicago. Investigators had checked the Adams Express office for three ivoks sent for the children. Vito Viviane, uncle of the missing pair, believes they are confined in an Illinois town near St Louis and detectives were sent to pursue the crew.

The body of Alton Jackson, a Black boy, was found Friday after drowning Wednesday in an eight foot deep hole of water in Fall Creek. Searchers had failed to recover it during initial attempts due to the depth.
