Spanish steamer Ambrosio Bolivar with 26 passengers attempted to run into Cardenas harbor under Terror guns. The monitor fired a warning shot, the ship surrendered, and prize crew from the Detroit landed passengers and crew except captain and chief engineer near Cardenas.
The Spanish steamer Telesfora from Galveston to Manchester with grain and cotton escaped capture by an American cruiser by entering British waters within the three mile limit. It anchored in Kingston harbor after the pursuit. In Key West reports say the monitor Terror turned back the Norwegian coal ship Uta trying to run the blockade at Cardenas.
The American ships depart Mirs Bay on Wednesday for Manila. An insurgent chief sails with the fleet to lead Philippine forces. Many Spanish vessels depart Manila with passengers and treasure, while Americans anticipate rich prizes and a possible Atlantic voyage.
