The State board of agriculture pushes ahead with construction of the Indianapolis mile race track at the fair grounds. Supt Peed Hiram Howland and Louis Grim oversee earthwork, grading and building grandstands pace toward a July opening and a $250000 investment.
Mrs Chas Foster and companions were at Plymouth church when a man called Jack the Spitter splashed tobacco juice on Mrs Foster's new spring dress near the waist. She tried to wipe the stain but it ruined the garment.
In Politions notes a New York ferrymander passes both houses. Ohio Democrats plan a state convention in Columbus on June 14-15. Senator Hale of Maine claims the state is out of the presidential race. W M Springer of Springfield Illinois is renominated for Congress. Teller and Wolcott lead the Colorado delegation to Minneapolis while opposing Harrison. Lackawanna County Pennsylvania votes down a resolution to instruct delegates for Harrison’s renomination.
The Board of Public Works pressed Fulmer and Kennington to honor the five year repair clause in macadamizing Seventh Street and Madison Avenue. Both contractors claimed contract word changes, but engineer records and witness Otto Stechhan confirmed the five year requirement, and the board ruled to enforce the originals.
In West Indianapolis William Davis a machinist stands trial for criminal assault on his nine year old daughter Pearl. The mother died last February revealing the alleged crime. The daughter testified clearly detailing the abuse in a woodshed and other instances. A mob threatened during the preliminary hearing and witnesses filled the corridors as Davis sat unmoved jotting notes.
Paris reports a dawn verdict with Ravachol and Simon condemned to life imprisonment while other defendants are freed. London and continental cities fear further attacks as anarchists flee arrest, with police deployments and searches expanding ahead of May Day. In Rome and Turin authorities tighten controls and arrest more suspects linked to incendiary activity.

Robert Hoskins 71 a longtime Indianapolis resident and early volunteer fireman was found dead in his Prospect Street home. The 1860 recruit helped launch the city fire department and later served in Indiana volunteers during the Civil War. He died after a day of seeming good health. a pension of 100 dollars monthly was in place. A postmortem was held.
Mrs J W Bell of Dayton swallowed strychnine in a personal crisis after harsh words with her husband. Four physicians worked to save her as authorities note she is the daughter of E Pedron of Louisville and was married in Jeffersonville after a five year courtship.
Attorney Will Rooker obtained a court modification allowing the street to be opened and wagons to cross the L, B, E and W track for the Tenth Street improvement. The modification completes the project and benefits property owners and the city.

Brussels reports say Harry Vane Millbank is barred from leaving Belgium and is under police watch near Liege after acting as second in a Bruges duel ten months ago. Rumor cites a possible future duel between Millbank and Duc de Morney tied to the Borrowe-Drayton affair.
