Bell fails to fight Moore law remonstrance hearing begins
Joseph J. Bell who pledged to challenge the validity of the Moore law remonstrance signatures did not press the issue as the Fourteenth ward blanket remonstrance hearing opened. About 1400 names are on the remonstrance against all saloons with Bell filing affidavits challenging 450 of them. Attorneys for the Anti Saloon League argued Bell cannot challenge 50 signatures though he had agreed to notify April 13 which names would be questioned. The county commissioners ruled Bell may file affidavits on the hearing day and require a $1000 bond from each side to cover potential costs for the remonstrance hearing.
