In San Francisco on April 23 during Du rant's preliminary examination for the murders of Marian Williams and Blanche Lamont, a disruptive young woman identified as Laura Lucy Gould Williamson declared herself an emissary of God and sought Durant's release. Maggie Witzpatrick linked Durant to a late night visit, while three other women identified him near the church between 9 and 9 15 pm the murder night. Williams was slain between 8 and 9 pm.

Lorenz Deitrich an 80 year old inmate of the county poor asylum died suddenly shortly after noon Monday of heart failure. He had eaten a hearty dinner and was found dead in his chair after he collapsed. Deitrich had been admitted to the asylum in 1893.
