A morning paper reports expected soft coal strike on May 1 across Illinois Indiana and Pennsylvania. Railroads rush to stockpile coal with a Santa Fe purchase of 75000 dollars and dealers fear May shipments cannot be met within a month.
The Jaci Opera Company left Salt Lake City bound for Cheyenne 665 miles away. A freight wreck blocked the line for hours, Supt. Baxter organized two engines and cleared the track. The 33 mile descent to Cheyenne was harrowing but the company delivered a strong performance once the curtain rose at 10:30 pm.
The Conferentes committee of the Commercial lab and the street railway company reached a pact discussed Wednesday. City attorney Taylor calls it a long-standing concession by the company and demands cobble stones. The Peoples national bank of Pittsburg files garnishment against Mary Rariden and the Indianapolis glue company as W A Rasder B G Kern and Louie C Haughey face judgment for 8231.29. Haughey is said to hold bank stock in Mary Bariden's name and to be linked to the Indianapolis national bank and Indianapolis glue company.
John Howard colored faced police court trial for public indecency after Detective Thornton traced repeated exposures near North and Brightstreet. A joint committee of the Commercial club and Board of Trade reports a negotiated plan with the Citizens' Street Railway. The proposal includes eight to sixteen foot paving, a 2 percent gross receipts tax for parks, flexible motive power authorization, transfer without charge, a 45 year franchise, and pole placement rules for electric lines. The agreement aims for fair, rapid transit development and was adopted unanimously.
The 36th annual Knights Templars Grand Commandery of Indiana met at Masonic Temple with 160 present from 34 commanderies. Grand Commander Danora T. Bacon reported a net gain of 120 knights and 20 deaths, a new commandery formed in Washington Daviess County, and the suspension of Grand Prelate Fred W.
