Lottie Bates a 17 year old girl was found dead Tuesday in Lovell's Corner near East Weymouth. Her body was charred with a bullet wound in the left breast. Two tramps Daniel Carroll and Thomas Mahoney were arrested after being seen near the Bates residence before discovery. Notes near the corpse and handwriting differences suggest possible foul play or coerced action while the notes claim self-destruction. A Bible hymn book and a bull dog revolver were found nearby. The Bates family has connections to Cohasset.
