Historic Marion county pioneer Samuel Moore dies at 130
Samuel Moore a Marion county pioneer died at his daughter Mrs Parker Carson's home 156 Hayt avenue Friday evening age Unnamed. Born October 10 1805 in Waterside Ireland he came to America at 24 and settled in Jefferson county where he married Mary Smock. He moved to Marion county in 1834 served nine years as county commissioner and supervised Bellefontaine railroad construction. During the war he proposed loaning $75000 from the court house fund to the state a plan Gov Morton approved despite no law authorizing it. As long as Morton was governor Moore avoided penitentiary risk though he said he would serve his country if needed. He fathered 12 children and survived by Mrs Carson and others. Funeral Sunday at 1 50 pm at Mrs Carsons home with burial to follow at Southport.
