Samuel Shockey aged 35 author of Twenty five years' fight with fate faced the police and court as he attempted to end his life after drunken episodes. He taunted the judge with phrenology talk, was released on commitment, then arrested again for drunkenness while selling books. He tied a scarf to a cell cage and tried to hang himself, failed, and later tried strangling himself with his clothes.
